I left my holiday property at about 05.00 hours in order to drive the 40 miles to Buttermere before sunrise, in the hope of capturing this tree with a glorious sky above the fells.Unfortunately it was not to be as that morning the warm weather made for misty conditions. However, I did at least establish where this much photographed tree is, and I set up my tripod waiting for better conditions. They came in the form of gradually clearing mist that revealed the outline of the fells. The tree is at the north western end of buttermere, just off the footpath and even has its own place marker on Google maps!
